Classroom Rules

The rules for my classroom are much the same as those for any other classroom. I expect students to come to class prepared, to participate in a thoughtful and respectful manner, and to take advantage of the educational opportunity that is being provided for them.

Students must complete all work in pencil. Students will provide their own pencils (preferably mechanical) and their own lead. Students should have at least two working pencils at all times. Failure to have a working pencil for class will result in 2 demerits.

Students are to provide their own paper. All notes, class work and homework is to be completed in their copybook, unless stated otherwise. Copybooks may be the hard marble composition books or spiral notebooks. Students must also have regular loose leaf paper for tests, quizzes, and collected assignments. Paper torn out of a composition book or spiral notebook will not be accepted. Failure to have the proper paper or notebook will result in 2 demerits and possibly a missing assignment sheet.

Students are to treat their textbooks gently and keep them covered at all times. They may use a paper book cover or a cloth book cover. They may not use any kind of sticky contact paper on the textbooks. This damages the cover. Students are not to use composition books, spiral notebooks or calculators as bookmarks in their textbooks. This will damage the spine, in effect destroying the book. The cost of replacing a textbook is $50 and up. Students will be required to pay for damaged textbooks.

Students are to be completely honest in all of their work. This means not sharing answers – whether it is a homework assignment, quiz, test, or extra credit. Students caught receiving answers from another student or giving answers to another student will receive a detention and a grade of zero on the assignment in question.

Students are responsible for anything they miss due to absence. This includes making up tests or quizzes, homework assignments, and any class notes. For each day that they are absent, they are given one day in which to complete their make-up work. Students who miss class because of band, doctors’ appointments, or acting as an altar server are responsible for all work as if they had not missed class. It is the student’s responsibility to find out from the teacher what they have missed and to turn in any missed assignments in a timely manner.

Students will raise their hands and wait to be called on before speaking in class. In this way they show respect for their teacher and their fellow classmates. Students will not speak to each other during instruction time unless the teacher gives them permission to do so. Students who do not follow these rules will receive a demerit. If the student repeats the offence within the same class period, they will also receive a referral. Students who continue to repeat the offence after receiving a referral will also receive a detention for blatant disrespect.
