

Claude Monet was born in Paris, France in 1840. He is one of the most famous Impressionist painters. He loved to paint outdoors, using rapid brushstrokes while applying splotches of colorful oil paint to his canvas. His landscapes are true examples of the Impressionist style. Norman Rockwell was a 20th Century American painter. He was born in New York City in 1894. He is most famous for his magazine covers depicting everyday events in the lives of ordinary Americans. He is noted for the many details he put in his paintings. Rockwell also illustrated 40 books, and produced over 4000 original works. Henri Lebasque was born in Champigne, France in 1885. He belonged to a group of artists known as "Les Fauves." His paintings are sometimes described as having "flatness of shape and color," while Lebasque himself is often referred to as the painter of "joy and light." He died in 1937. Born in Limoges, France in 1841, Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a leader in the Impressionist style of painting. Many of his paintings are very familiar to us. Edouard Manet was born in 1832 in Paris, France. He originally began painting as a Realist, but later after becoming friends with painters such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet, he began painting in the Impressionist style, with loose brush strokes.
