Unit 1-Trees
| leaves | the part that makes food for a tree |
| roots | the part that takes in water for a tree |
| observe | use your senses to learn something |
| trunk | the part that is the stem of a tree |
| branches | the part that holds the leaves of a tree |
| living things | grows and changes |
| seed | has a young plant inside |
| seedling | a small new plant |
| evergreen | stays green all year |
| natural resource | something we use that comes from the earth |
| shelter | something that covers and protects |
Unit 2-The Sky
| temperature | how warm or cool something is |
| heat | to make warmer or hotter |
| infer | to use what you know to figure something out |
| shadow | made when something is in the way of the light |
| clouds | small drops of water that float in the sky |
| seasons | spring, summer, fall and winter |
| Moon | large ball of rock that moves around Earth |
| stars | make there own light |
| constellation | picture in the night sky made by stars |

| properties | how a thing looks, feels smells tastes or sounds |
| measure | to find out the size or amount of something |
| matter | what all things are made of |
| mass | how much matter is in an object |
| solid | has a shape and size |
| liquid | has no shape of its own |
| gases | have no size or shape of their own |
| melt | change from solid to a liquid |
| constellation | picture in the night sky made by stars |

| communicate | to talk, write or draw |
| push | move an object away |

| force | what makes an object move |
