Welcome to a very special year in your child's
school career! First grade is a very important time in your child's life.
Working together we can make this a very successful year. During the
year, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and
so much more. We hope to instill a love of learning that will last
throughout your child's years of schooling!
A homework sheet will be sent home every
Monday. It will contain a list of all skills that will be taught that week
and list any homework that the children have that week. It will also
contain any important information about classroom activities.
Please contact us immediately if you
have any concerns about your child. Small problems can seem very large to
a six-year-old child, and children do not learn well if they are upset or
worried.
Coming to School and Dismissal
The children should arrive at school
as close to 8:00 as possible. If they arrive to early they are bored and
can get into mischief. Prayer begins at 8:10 and we begin working at
8:15.
We dismiss at 2:55.
Parents should wait for their child on the back parking lot. After
the first day it is very helpful if you show your child the area were you
will park and wait for them by the car. This eliminates a large crowd of
parents in the dismissal area, which makes it more difficult for everyone
to dismiss quickly.
Thursday Envelopes
Every Thursday, the youngest child in
a family will bring home an envelope with school notices. Please sign the
envelope and return it to school (empty) the next day. Look for other
notices during the week in your child's homework folder.
Homework
At the beginning of the year our
homework will consist of mostly oral reading, studying High Frequency
words, and
Math. All reading assignment will be listed in the yellow reading
homework folder. Please listen to your child read and then initial the
assignment sheet in the folder. New High Frequency words will be listed on the
weekly homework sheet. Math will come home in the red math homework
folder. Please go over the direction with your child then have them
complete the work independently. Parents, please check the work,
have the student correct any errors and sign the page.
Birthdays
You may send in a simple class snack
to celebrate your child's birthday, such as cupcakes, brownies, munchkins
or cookies. Please be sure that all snakes are nut free. We have 19 students in 1B and
19students in 1A.
Invitations to parties can only be passed out in school if they are sent
to me to be placed in the Thursday envelopes. Children this age are
very sensitive about being left out.
Snack
The children should bring a snack every morning to be eaten at recess
time. Since our class has late lunch it is important that each child have
a small snack to hold them over until lunch. Please avoid sugary treats
and drinks. A drink is not necessary but if you wish your child to
have a drink a small water bottle is the best option.
